Kein anderes Werk Mozarts ist so sehr von Mythen umwoben wie sein letztes: das Requiem d-Moll. Mozart selbst konnte es nicht mehr vollenden, sodass fehlende Partien von fremder Hand ergänzt wurden. Zahlreiche Abschriften trugen mit ihren Fehlerquellen zusätzlich zur Manipulation des Notentextes bei. Dieses Standardwerk der Chorliteratur erscheint nun in der Edition Peters als Urtextausgabe, herausgegeben von David Black.
Die Edition beruft sich auf Mozarts Komposition in der traditionellen Ergänzung von Franz Xaver Süßmayr. Erstmals konnten aber auch bisher unbekannte Quellen herangezogen werden, die früheren Editionen, etwa der Mozart-Gesamtausgabe, noch nicht zur Verfügung gestanden hatten
