Tangos for Sonja

Gardemann's tango story started like this:

"A friend had a girlfriend, who was very good at dancing tango. So, he also wanted to learn that. But he did not want to take a dance class, without knowing anyone there. That is why he asked me if I would be interested in learning to dance tango. I agreed. After two weeks, however, the friend gave up dancing. I, on the other hand, discovered my passion for tango and took many more classes."

But that was not all. Because of the tango Gardemann started to compose again. After his studies, the artist destroyed all his previously composed work. It did not really fit his style, so the pieces were good but did not feel "real" to him. For many years he did not write a single note. But then tango came into his life. And the first composition after finding his style was "Tangos de Amistad" a piece for piano four-hands. After this followed some compositions for mass. However, these also always ended with a tango, which the orchestra played after church.

With "Tangos für Sonja" Gardemann takes a particularly intimate path in his creative work. These tangos are not for an orchestra or several players. They are an insight into a wordless world of emotions. A look that reaches the listener deep inside being alone, lonely. The innermost self, which is hidden to the rational mind. And yet, those six compositions loudly proclaim the existence of the self in an understandable and unmistakable way.
