Dmitri Shostakovich – Werkverzeichnis

Even with a composer such as Dmitri Shostakovich who died 35 years ago, a catalogue of works must be continually revised and brought up to date with the latest research. The second edition of this Catalogue of Works now includes much new information gained through Shostakovich research. During the course of a few years, numerous works of Shostakovich which were previously unknown have been rediscovered -including the Prologue to the satirical opera "Orango" conceived in 1932, a Symphonic Fragment from the year 1945 as well as an incomplete String Quartet of 1962.

Since its original issue in 2005, a considerable number of volumes of the successively published DSCH Complete Edition has been issued. From the 150 planned volumes, 33 are now available. It has thus also become possible to document the early film scores to "The New Babylon," Op. 18 and "Odna," Op. 26 in detail, for example. In addition, it has finally been possible to find out a number of previously unknown details having to do both with the works themselves and also with performing interpreters and the special conditions of the history of reception, thanks to the researching and inclusion of further secondary sources.
