The tunes in Mellow Cello are designed to provide an introduction to jazz and popular music styles for young cellists, ranging from beginners to performers at a somewhat more advanced level.
The first pieces use only open strings, both pizzicato and bowed: here, the cellist gains experience in counting rests as well as exploring the four strings.
From pieces 4 to 9 the fingers are brought into play, starting with the first finger only, until all four are used. The pieces in the second half of the book allow the cellist to explore a variety of jazz styles.
A piano accompaniment part is included for concert performances.
